Join Our Team – Communications Engineer/Technican

Due to company growth, technology advaancements and development of Alcom Connect, our DMR Tier 3 trunked network, we need a highly skilled Communications Engineer/Technician to join our team. Reporting to the Directors, this is an exciting opportunity if you are looking for a new challenge and have proven skills that you would like to develop further.

About the role

You will provide leadership in all technical areas, programme equipment, design, install and manage repeater/communication systems, project work, equipment assessment and repair; this role is busy and varied, with no two days the same.

The role would suit an IT or radio technician/engineer with a good understanding of IP protocols, networks and DMR technology.

Some of the technologies you may be working with include:

  • Designing, building and managing all types of repeater/critical communication systems
  • Building and managing wireless microwave radio & fixed IP links
  • Client application provision; including; including GPS, lone worker or telemetry services
  • Communication high site work; including IP networking, RF & power supply design
  • Cellular & DMR integration; including emerging technologies like PTT over cellular

Applicants must have the following attributes:

  • Minimum 2 years in a radio or IT role
  • Radio Communication/IT Qualifications
  • A keen interest in emerging technologies and their practical applications
  • Problem solving and project management skills
  • A self-starter who can plan their own workload but also take direction
  • Ability to prioritise and work under pressure
  • A “can do” attitude and customer focussed approach
  • Proven leadership ability and ability to work within a team
  • Good oral & written communication skills
  • Good physical fitness
  • Full driver license
  • New Zealand residency or a valid work visa is essential
