Forestry Communications – An Integrated Approach to Emergency Event Management

Creating a health and safety culture in any organisation requires awareness, having the right equipment, proper training and commitment from everyone. Having clear and reliable communications is always a vital element of any health and safety plan.

Radio To Phone Interconnect

For crews working in the forest or other remote areas with no cell phone coverage, getting help where it is needed as quickly as possible is vital. Crews on the Alcom Connect Digital system have the option to call out of the forest/remote area from their radio to a landline or cell phone.  Allen Frost, Komatsu Forest Service Manager, explains how Alcom Connect’s radio-to-phone interconnect is a game changer for his team:

“We trialled the Alcom Tier III digital system in one vehicle and found it was paying for itself just in the time lost having to drive to get phone service. The mechanic liked it because he could let his family know if he was going to be late home. It also proved invaluable when the trial vehicle was involved in an accident. After this, we installed Tait Tier III capable radios in all service vehicles.”

Emergency Event Management

The Tait digital network also offers a tailored system that will alert and manage communications in the event of serious incidents or emergencies. A digital welfare monitoring cloud kicks in and can transmit an alert to a wide range of co-workers, remote workers, management team members and third-party monitoring services. This system ensures a response plan is activated immediately.

6 Point Emergency Event Management System

1. Tait digital radios all offer a range of Mandown and Lone Worker features

2. A text is sent to the remote manager or health and safety manager, providing user identity and location. From their cellular mobile, the remote manager can talk to the user if required.

3. An emergency call is set up with locally-based radios. Locally-based users are often best placed to provide assistance.

4. A visual and audible alert can be sent to the office. The alert will provide the user’s identity and location. All details are stored for future analysis.

5. A visual and audible alert can be sent to a 24/7 Monitoring Service. The monitoring service will follow a pre-agreed escalation process.

6. Post-incident, health and safety managers can review  and refine the emergency response process.

The beauty of this system is it can be tailored to your workplace’s specific needs.
