For over 40 years, Skyline Luge Rotorua has been one of New Zealand’s most iconic tourism attractions, delivering memorable experiences to thousands of visitors every year.
Behind every great customer experience is a team working seamlessly together. At Skyline Luge Rotorua, clear and reliable communications play a critical role in ensuring both operational efficiency and safety across the site.
The Challenge
In the early days, the Luge Crew relied on analogue simplex radios for communications. As operations expanded and visitor numbers increased, the system struggled to provide the consistent coverage and reliability required for a large, dynamic environment.
The Solution
In 2016, Skyline Luge Rotorua approached Alcom to review their requirements and identify a more effective solution.
A Hytera digital radio system was recommended, featuring a Hytera RD622 UHF digital repeater and portable radios configured with pseudo trunking technology. This allowed multiple users to share communication channels more efficiently, improving coordination across the entire site.
The Result
Since installation, the digital radio system has delivered clear, reliable communications throughout the attraction, helping staff coordinate operations efficiently while supporting a safe and enjoyable guest experience.
For Skyline and other organisations operating across large sites, the benefits are significant:
Clearer audio and more reliable communications across the site
Improved safety and faster emergency response capability
Better coordination between teams and departments
Reduced downtime caused by missed or unclear messages
Greater operational efficiency and a better customer experience
