With the Christmas & New Year holiday season on the horizon, it’s time to reflect on the year behind and plan for the year ahead. While we are always looking for opportunities and better ways to do business, our company vision and core values remain constant and guide the Alcom team.

Working In Partnership
Working with a wide range of people and organisations, suppliers, manufacturers, other dealers & service agents, contractors, Councils, government agencies and so on, is part and parcel of doing business and consistently delivering excellent customer service. Over the past 12 years, Alcom has enjoyed a good working relationship with the vast majority of associates we’ve worked with, and some have become significant enduring partners.
Working Smarter, Not Harder
A case in point is the 3-way partnership between Colvins Communications, Communicate NZ and Alcom Communications. It is based on shared values and a commitment to “working smarter, not harder”. We see the value of sharing ideas, resourcing and expertise, and exploring opportunities in the marketplace together rather than as competitors.
Partnership in Action
One such opportunity is improving coverage and service across Central North Island’s rural and forest areas. We saw a gap in the market and collaborated to build a digital VHF trunked radio network.
The Tait DMR Tier 3 digital technology with IP linking now delivers seamless high-quality voice communication across Rotorua/Bay of Plenty, Gisborne/East Coast and Napier/Hawkes Bay regions. Customers can integrate a range of features such as text messaging, phone interconnect, GPS tracking and group or one-to-one calling for improved worker safety and business communications.
The Tait Tier III Digital Network’s performance during and post Cyclone Gabrielle was exceptional. Since then, the linking and backup systems have been monitored and improved to meet critical communications standards. The Network is already established across a wide area covering all the major forests in the Central North Island with plans to increase in line with demand. In the long term, there is potential to have New Zealand-wide coverage by linking with Nexus, the South Island’s digital network.
We are independent locally owned and operated networks (Alcom Connect, Colvins Connect & ComConnect), which link to create a larger network. Together we deliver a better quality service to all our network customers.
We look forward to working in partnership with others as we continue in our joint quest to provide seamless, cutting-edge communication solutions throughout New Zealand.
